HOME OF THE BISONS!

SPIRIT WEEK 2018
Nov 27, 2018
We are excited to offer the Bison Ballers basketball program for grades 2-3 students starting Wednesday, December 5th and running every Wednesday until February 27th during the lunch hour.
The intent of the Bison Ballers program is to introduce the students to the fundamentals of basketball: passing, dribbling and shooting while putting emphasis on character development and teamwork.  Each session will be run by a qualified Louis Riel staff member who will be assisted by members of the Sr. Boys and Girls basketball teams.

Each player will be divided into a team based on what house they are in and put with a coach from their house. The cost of the program is $20.00 and each participant will receive a T-Shirt  If you are a parent of a grade 2-3 student who would like to sign up your child please click below for the parent letter.

November 20th, 2018

Dear k-4 Parents/Guardians,

We have begun our gymnastics/ Mission Impossible unit in physical education. This unit lasts from Nov 20th– Nov 30th. To begin this unit we will review safety procedures with each class. Students in elementary school are not expected to change for physical education. When participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask you to consider the following:

  • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required- sweats and a t shirt work best).
  • Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on the equipment when climbing.
  • Tucking shirts in may help to prevent an accident.
  • All jewellery that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). E.g watches, rings, necklaces, etc…
  • Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish.
  • Students continued to wear indoor running shoes.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s PE teacher.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Boutette

Ms. Setchell

Mr. Steinke

Dear Parents:

Once again Louis Riel is pleased to be hosting its annual Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday September 27, 2018 at 10:30 am for grade K-9 students. We will start our run/walk off with an assembly and guest speaker from the Terry Fox Foundation.

Our walk/run will follow a route through the community (please see attched map). The course is approximately 1.5 kilometers in length and students will be encouraged to complete the course walking or running for approximately 50 mins. Terry’s Marathon of Hope modeled resiliency as he continued his run through rain and snow. As a community we will carry on this tradition and run rain or shine. We ask all students to come dressed prepared for the weather, including appropriate footwear and water bottle. Teachers, parents and supervisors will be on hand to supervise and assist students along the way. We invite parents and community members to join us on our run/walk.

As the run is during school hours, all students are expected to take part. Students who may have limited mobility will help with set up and take down that day. Students will be collecting Toonies for Terry in their homeroom classes, and all money will be forwarded to The Terry Fox Foundation.

We are very proud to be associated with The Terry Fox Foundation and believe that our involvement will launch a successful, positive and meaningful school year. We are also very proud of our contribution to cancer research. Since our last event, almost $2,000 has been raised by the students, parents and teachers of the Louis Riel community for cancer research. If you would like to make a donation you can do so on our school run page  http://www.terryfox.ca/LouisRiel or you can drop off your donation in the main office. Please note the school cannot issue receipts for donations, if you require a receipt please donate online. We appreciate the support and involvement of our parent community.

Let’s keep Terry’s dream to find a cure for cancer alive.

Thank you in advance.
